Influence of Mortierella alpina enrichedArtemia franciscana on distal intestinal histology of sea bass larvae (Dicentrarchus labrax)

Mohamed Hassan Mona.

Abstract
The present study evaluated the effect of Mortierella alpina and M. alpina plus oil emulsion enriched Artemia franciscana on distal intestine histology of seabass larvae (Dicentrarchus labrax). D. labrax larvae (3.20 mg) were fed on A. franciscana nauplii enriched with 1ml/L M. alpina (MA), 1m/L M. alpina combined with 1ml/L of the following oils: black seed oil, grape seed oil, linseed oil or safflower oil for 28days. D. labrax larvae fed on unenriched A. franciscana served as a control. The results indicated that D. labrax larvae fed A. franciscana enriched with M. alpina or M. alpina in combination with black seed oil, linseed oil or safflower oil showed normal intestinal histology. D. labrax larvae fed A. franciscana enriched with M. alpina – grape seed oil showed minor fat infiltration in enterocytes. The present results suggest that a dietary combination between M. alpina and vegetable oils such as black seed, linseed or safflower may not alter intestinal histomorphology of D. labrax larvae.
