Clinico-Diagnostic Studies on Valvular Diseases in Dogs

Twenty one dogs of age 5 to 14 years were diagnosed with valvular disease. The diagnosis was done on the basis of clinical signs and by employing different cardiac diagnostic modalities viz., radiography, electrocardiography (ECG) and echocardiography. Echocardiography revealed increased Echocardiography revealed thickened edges of anterior and posterior mitral leaflets in two dogs, increase in values of LVIDd, LVIDs, EDV, ESV, EPSS and LA/AO and significant decrease in values of LVPWd and LVPWs and decreased contractile indices (FS and EF). Colour flow doppler echocardiography revealed mitral valve regurgitation (14 dogs), tricuspid valve regurgitation (7 dogs) and high velocity blood flow during systole and diastole.
