The Retro-articular Ring of Atlas and its Clinical Significance

A B S T R A C T 

Abstract
Fifty atlas vertebrae were examined for presence of retro vertebral artery ring (complete or incomplete). Out of these, two atlas vertebrae (4%) presented with complete ring and six atlas vertebrae (12%) with incomplete ring for vertebral artery. The present study is carried out with incidence of presence of the retro articular ring for vertebral artery in Western Maharashtra region. The clinical significance of ring formation is discussed with reference to vertebral artery formation in relation to vertebro-basilar insufficiency.
