OXIDATIVE STRESS IN PATIENTS WITH HYPERTENSION

Abstract
Background : Hypertension is associated with increased vascular oxidative stress; however, there is still a debate whether oxidative stress is a cause or a result of hypertension. Methods : The study included 100 subjects of age group 50-70yrs, out of which 50 patients were with hypertension and rest 50 age & sex matched normotensive apparently healthy individuals (Control group). The status of glutathione peroxidase (GPx), Glutathione reductase (GR), Catalase (CAT), Superoxide dismutase (SOD), Malondialdehyde (MDA) were determined in these subjects.
