Cytomegalovirus seropositivity among women of reproductive age in Malatya

Objective: To evaluate cytomegalovirus seropositivity among women of reproductive age in Malatya is aimed.
Material and methods: Cytomegalovirus IgM and IgG antibodies were evaluated respectively in 4042 patients who attended to the gynecology outpatient clinic of the Inonu University Hospital betzeen February 1995 - February 1999 by micro ELISA method. 828 patients were pregnant.
Results: Of the 4042 serum samples, 70 (1.7%) CMV IgM, 3259 (80,6%) CMV IgG, and 72 (1.8%) CMV IgM+IgG were positive. Of the pregnant women, CMV IgM (0.6%), CMV IgG (78%), and CMV IgM+IgG (10%) were positive.
Conclusion: These results demostrated that the rate of infection risk for cytomegalovirus was 19% in women of reproductive age.
