Therapeutic potential of harmaline, a novel alkaloid, against cervical cancer cells in vitro: Apoptotic induction and DNA interaction study

Abstract
Results converge to suggest that harmaline shows strong binding with CT DNA as revealed by UV absorption, fluorescence spectroscopy, circular dichroism and isothermal calorimetry. The alkaloid showed intercalative mode of binding and induces apoptosis on cancer cell line (HeLa) in comparison to normal cell line (WRL-68). The alkaloid treatment increases ROS generation and shows G2/M phase arrest in HeLa cells.
