Background: Functional outcome measures are essential parts of examining elderly people. Timed up and go (TUG) and five times sit to stand (FTSS) are commonly used to assess transitional skills among elderly but has dynamic nature. Romberg test is a simple neurologic test that is static in nature but uses multiple senses.
Objective: The main aim of this study was to explore if the performance of elderly at Romberg test would indicate their functional performance at Timed up and go and five times sit to stand tests.
Methods and Material: One hundred independently ambulant elder have voluntarily participated. The investigator collected demographic data and tested every participant for Romberg test. Within the same session, the investigator tested every participant for five times sit to stand and timed up and go tests. The investigator randomized the order of measurement to overcome the order effect.
Results: A 2 (Recreational status) x 2 (Romberg test status) between- subject factorial ANOVA was calculated for TUG and FTSS tests. Regarding TUG, a significant main effect for Romberg was found [F (1,96)= 5.4, P
