Frequency of subclinical hypothyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease

Rubina Ahmad, Nadia Saeed, Aziz Ahmed.

Abstract
Rawal Med J 2019;44:24-27
Please following in place of second para of introduction:
CKD is linked with thyroid dysfunction through various pathways like reduction in Glomerular filtration rate (GFR)⁴ and renal tubular transport capacity,⁵ impacts of the low T3 syndrome (T3 triiodothyronine),⁶ uremic toxin mediated disordered hypothalamic-pituitary function, and impaired renal handling of iodine.⁷ When hypothyroidism becomes severe, it causes reduced heart function which leads to progressively worsening kidney function.⁸

Key words: CKD, thyroid, GFR
