Anogeissus latifolia (Roxb.) stem bark was reported for various pharmacological activities in traditional system of medicine. The aim of present study was to investigate the protective effect of Anogeissus latifolia (Roxb.) stem bark in mice. Anticonvulsant effects of the ethanolic extracts of Anogeissus latifolia was assessed in Pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) induced convulsion and Maximum Electro Shock (MES) test in experimental mice. Electric shock (50 mA for 0.2 sec.) was delivered with the help of corneal electrode to induce tonic hind limb tonic extension (HLTE). Pentylenetetrazol injection (80 mg/kg) was given by intraperitoneally to induce convulsion (clonic). Different concentration of ethanolic extracts of Anogeissus latifolia (200 and 400 mg/kg) given to mice by orally. The ethanolic extracts of Anogeissus latifolia showed good results in dose dependent protection in both model MES test and PTZ induced convulsion models. These ﬁnding suggested that ethanolic extracts of Anogeissus latifolia had anticonvulsant effects against MES and PTZ induced convulsions in a dose dependent manner with no neurotoxic effect.
