Antimicrobial Efficacy and Phytochemical Screening of Mushrooms, Lenzites Betulinus, and Coriolopsis Gallica Extracts.]

Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the antimicrobial activities of Lenzites betulinus and Coriolopsis gallica extracts against some bacterial isolates of medical importance. The organisms are Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumonia and Escherichia coli. Methods: Agar well diffusion assay was used, the ethanolic, petroleum ether and aqueous extract of C. gallica was assayed against the bacterial isolates. Results: Petroleum ether extract of C. gallica and L. betulinus was able to inhibit P. vulgaris with inhibition zones of 26.0 mm and 20.0 mm respectively. Ethanolic extract of C. gallica also inhibited P. vulgaris with inhibition zone of 22.0 mm while aqueous extract and petroleum ether of L. betulinus inhibited P. aeruginosa with inhibition zones of 20.0 mm and 23.0 mm respectively. E. coli and S. aureus were also inhibited by the aqueous and ethanolic extract of L. betulinus with zones of inhibition 15.0 mm and 26.0 mm against E. coli while 19.0 mm and 22.0 mm against S. aureus respectively. This study also showed the presence of some phytochemicals like tannins, phenolics, flavonoids, steroids and saponin in the mushrooms with antimicrobial effects against the bacterial isolates used. The active components present in ethanolic, aqueous and petroleum ether extracts of C. gallica include phenolics, flavonoids and steroids while phytochemicals obtained from L. betulinus are phenolics, tannins, flavonoids and saponin respectively. Conclusion: The efficacy of these mushrooms as antimicrobial agents was attributed to the presence of various photochemicals present; hence they could be used in the simulation of drugs against some multi resistant strain of microorganisms.

Mantarlar, Lenzites Betulinus ve Coriolopsis Gallica Ekstrelerinin Antimikrobiyal Etkinlikleri ve Fitokimyasal Analizi

Özet
AMAÇ: Bakterilerin yaygın görülen çoklu ilaç dirençleri yeni antibakteriyel türleri ve direnç mekanizmasını baskılayan bileşikleri geliştirmeyi gerekli kılar. Bundan dolayı bu çalışma, Lenzites betulinus ve Coriolopsis gallica ekstrelerinin tıbbi önemi olan bazı bakteri izolatlarına karşı antimikrobiyal etkilerini değerlendirmek için gerçekleştirildi.
YÖNTEM: Çalışılan mikroorganizmalar Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumoniae ve Escherichia coli’dir. Agar difüzyon testi kullanılarak C. gallicanın etanol, petrol eteri ve su ekstreleri bakteriyel izolatlara karşı denendi.
BULGULAR: C. gallica and L. betulinusun petrol eteri ekstresi P. Vulgarisi inhibe etmekte başarılıydı (inhibisyon zonları sırasıyla 26,0 mm ve 20,0 mm). Ayrıca; L. Betulinusun su ve petrol eteri ekstreleri P. aeruginosayı sırasıyla 20,0 mm ve 23,0 mm.lik inhibisyon zonları ile inhibe ederken, C. gallicanın etanol ekstresi 22,0 mm.lik inhibisyon zonu ile P. vulgarisi inhibe etti. L. Betulinusun su ve etanol ekstreleri tarafından E. coli ve S. Aureus inhibe edildi. E. coli için inhibisyon zonu 15,0 mm ve 26,0 mm iken, S. aureus için 19,0 mm ve 22,0 mm idi. Bu çalışma aynı zamanda mantarlardaki taninler, fenolikler, flavonoidler, steroidler ve saponin gibi antimikrobiyal etkileri ile bakteriyel izolatlara karşı kullanılan fitokimyasalların varlığını gösterdi.
SONUÇ: C. gallicanın etanol, su ve petrol eteri ekstrelerinde fenolikleri, flavonoidleri ve steroidleri içeren aktif komponentler bulunur. L. Betulinustan ise phenolikler, taninler, flavonoidler ve saponin elde edilir.
