*Leena Phadke,Prreeya Mardiikar and Varsha Sarode.

Abstract
Background: Association of unfitness with various lifestyle disorders in adults is fairly established. However literature suggests that foundation of physical fitness or unfitness is laid down in childhood through healthy or unhealthy lifestyles. Various test batteries are available for assessment of fitness parameters like Body Composition, Muscle Strength, Muscle Endurance, Cardiovascular Endurance and Flexibility. However there is relative paucity of the standard fitness norms for these parameters in children. Therefore the aim of present project was to gather information of physical fitness parameters in children and to study the correlation of various fitness parameters with body mass index in both genders. Material & Methods: BMI, Percentage Fat, Waist to Hip ratio, muscle strength, abdominal muscular endurance, and flexibility were measured using standard procedures. Results: Mean BMI in boys were 18.22±4.34 & 18.31±3.91 in girls. The mean percent body fat in boys were 5.78±4.66 as against to 16.95±4.7 observed in girls. The mean waist to hip ratio for boys were 0.83±0.04 & 0.80±0.03 in girls, while mean absolute waist girth were 52.75±5.3 cm in boys & 53.16±4.8 cm. in girls. The other fitness parameters like mean grip strength in boys were 11.8kg±5.7 & 10.08 kg±4.56 in girls, the mean muscle endurance (situps /minute) in boys were 22.21±6.5 & 20.0±4.85 in girls. The mean flexibility (inches) observed was 16.83±1.65 in boys & 17.05±1.45 in girls. Highly significant gender differences were observed for percent body fat (p
