Salicyaldehyde and their derivatives can be condensed with amines in 1:1 and 2:1 ratio to form bi, tri and tetra dentate NO and
N2O2 Schiff base Ligands. They can contain additional donor atoms like oxygen, sulphur, nitrogen etc. which makes them Suitable
chelating ligands to coordinate with Metal ions to form Schiff base complexes. Thus provides the possibility synthesis of
large number of Schiff base complexes with divers’ structural feature. The model system including those with bidentate, tridentate
and tetra dentate Schiff base derived from Salicyaldehyde and their coordination chemistry are summarized in this review.
