The present study aims to evaluate water quality changes at El-Kanater El-Khyria and El-Rahawy drain subjected to different types of pollutions and their effects on haematology and histopathology of Clarias gariepinus obtained from the same sites. Water and fish samples were collected from the River Nile at two stations, during the four seasons of 2009. Physico-chemical parameters i.e. water temperature, electrical conductivity, transparency, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate were determined. The haematological measurements of glucose, total serum protein, albumin, globulin, ALT, AST, uric acid and urea were determined as well as histology of liver and spleen of fish Clarias gariepinus from the investigated sites were done. The results showed that the changes in water quality especially at El-Rahawy drain have negative impact on blood parameters and histology of liver and spleen of the collected fish. The given damages were related to the discharge of water loaded with sewage in El-Rahawy drain and in the Rossetta branch, which consequently may affect fish production and human health. So it is necessary to treat the sewage effluents before discharging to the Rossetta branch stream.
