Effect of Malathion on Serum Cholinesterase Activity and Lipid Profile in Rabbits

Abstract
The present study was designed to study the effect of Malathion on lipid profile and inhibition of cholinesterase activity in rabbits. The animals were divided into five groups A, B, C, D, and E, each comprising of five rabbits. The animals of group A, B, C and D were treated intra dermally with Malathion 50mg/kg, 100mg/kg, 200mg/kg, 400mg/kg body weight respectively. Group E was considered as control. The application of Malathion was repeated on day 1st, day 3rd, day 5th and day 7th of the experiment. Cholinesterase activity and lipid profile were measured in blood serum. Cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL) level was increased significantly and triglycerides were decreased in all groups when treated with Malathion.
