Microbiology and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of wound and soft tissue infections on surgical floor Mayo Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan

Abstract
Objective: To determine frequency of different organisms from wound, skin and soft tissue infection and determine their resistance and sensitivity pattern.
Methodology: This retrospective descriptive study was done by analyzing data from records of Microbiology laboratory, Pathology Department, King Edward Medical University Lahore, Pakistan.
Results: Among 231 isolates, Pseudomonas was the most common organism; 80/231 (34.6%), followed be Staphylococcus aureus; 52/231 (22.5%) and E. coli 47/231 (20.3%). For gram-positive organisms, Linezolid was the most active drug (sensitivity 96.88%) followed by Vancomycin (sensitivity 95.74%). For gram-negative organisms, Teicoplanin was the most active drug (sensitivity 96.15%), followed by Piperacillin+Tazobactam (sensitivity 94.31%), Imipenem+cilastin (sensitivity 78.95%) and Meropenem (sensitivity 78.72%).
Conclusion: Most common isolates were resistant to most of the first line agents while some effective alternatives still exist.
