Genetic Etiology of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a frequently diagnosed psychiatric disorder. The etiolgy of ADHD has been on the agenda of the child psychiatry. ADHD may lead to many social and psychiatric problems if not treated. Although the causes of ADHD has not been specified clearly, yet, the findings of many related studies suggest that heredity plays a crucial role in etiology of the disorder. the present review focuses on the family, adoption, twin and segregation analyses studies that aim to specify the role of heredity on ADHD and the studies that investigate the relation between ADHD and specific genetic disorders.
