The Effect of Reiki Touch Therapy on Pain and Anxiety

Abstract
Pain is a complex multidimensional phenomenon that impacts on individual’s bio-psycho-social and spiritual well-being. Therefore, its control requires a multidisciplinary approach. One of the most common reasons of seeking medical help is pain and related conditions. In case of that are ineffective and undesirable side effects of the pharmacological approaches to reduce pain, non-pharmacological approaches are used to in addition by doctors and nurses. Nowadays, complementary therapies of non-pharmacological interventions that are implemented in reducing pain and anxiety have become popular. One of complementary therapies is Reiki touch therapy. Also, Reiki touch therapy is an energy therapy. Reiki energy provides strength, harmony, and balance and encourages physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healing. In the researches have been revealed that Reiki touch therapy is an effective approach in reducing the intensity pain and anxiety levels. The therapy in a lot of the countries is used by doctors and nurses for treatment of patients. These numbers are likely much higher today. But it commonly hasn’t been practiced in the medical settings in our country. For this reason, it is important that Reiki touch therapy should be used in our country. The purpose of this paper is pointed that Reiki touch therapy is able to demonstrate the efficacy of using in management of pain and anxiety and it is a method unknown and unused in our country.
