To determine medical student’s opinion on how ethics should be taught in undergraduate curriculum, as a compulsory subject or as optional.
Subjects and Methods
This opinion survey was carried out amongst 150 fourth (junior) and final (senior) year medical students of Islamic International Medical College, Rawalpindi.
One hundred and seven (71%) students responded. Forty percent were in favor of compulsory subject while 26% were indecisive. Junior students were more in favor of compulsory teaching of ethics.
We conclude that teaching of ethics should be made compulsory and recommend that the issue should be debated among students, medical faculty and educationists, looking for their enhanced willingness and participation. (Rawal Med J 2011;36:155-158).
